Innerhalb von drei Jahrzehnten konnten ca. 350 Millionen Menschen der extremen Armut entkommen. Einige haben den Aufstieg Chinas zur neuen ökonomischen Weltmacht prognostiziert und sich davon weniger hierarchische Weltwirtschaftsbeziehungen erhofft\, auch durch seine Rolle als „neuer Geber“ von Hilfsgeldern. 2013 beschloss das Zentralkomitee der KP Chinas\, verstärkt auf die Binnennachfrage statt auf den Export zu setzen und eine sozial ausgewogene wirtschaftlichen Entwicklung zu fördern. \nDoch all dies scheint sich vorerst nicht zu erfüllen. Wachstum und Binnennachfrage stocken. Umweltprobleme und die Ungleichheit zwischen Regionen und sozialen Gruppen sind enorm angewachsen. Die schlechten Arbeitsbedingungen in den für den Weltmarkt produzierenden Fabriken und die Missachtung von Grundrechten bestimmen die Berichterstattung. \nWas sind die Ursachen des scheinbar stockenden Wachstums\, und wie sieht es mit den ankündigten Strukturreformen aus? Welche Rolle spielen Auslandsinvestitionen und die wirtschaftlichen Beziehungen zu den USA? Wie ist es um die Arbeitsverhältnisse bestellt? Welche wirtschaftlichen\, sozialen und politischen Auswirkungen haben Arbeitsmigration und anhaltende Arbeitskämpfe um höhere Löhne\, Schutzmaßnahmen und Sozialleistungen? \nHo-fung Hung und Chun-Yi Lee werden die aktuellen Entwicklungen in China vor dem Hintergrund der eng miteinander verflochtenen Kapital- und Arbeitsbeziehungen beleuchten. Within three decades\, approximately 350 million people escaped from extreme poverty. Some commentators predicted China’s rise to an economic and world power and hoped that this will bring less hierarchical global economic relationships\, amongst other things due to China’s importance as an emerging donor in international development cooperation. In 2013\, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China decided to stimulate domestic demand and be less dependent on exports. On several occasions\, the Central Committee announced its intention to promote a socially balanced economic development. \nIt appears that these expectations have not been met\, at least for now. Economic growth has come down and domestic demand is still slow. Environmental problems and the inequality between regions and social groups have increased enormously. Poor working conditions for factory workers in the export processing zones and violations of basic rights dominate media reports on China.\nWhat are the reasons for the stagnant growth and will China implement the announced structural reforms? What is the role of foreign investment\, what are the effects of the country’s economic relations with the US? What is the social\, economic and political impact of labor migration and the ongoing struggles for higher wages\, safety measures and social benefits? \nHo-fung Hung and Chun-Yi Lee will analyze the current developments in China against the backdrop of closely interlinked capital and labor relations.
