SUMMARY:Collisions. The Origins of the War in Ukraine and the New Global Instability
DESCRIPTION:Author Michael Kimmage will present his latest monograph Collisions. The Origins of the War in Ukraine and the New Global Instability. The book launch will be followed by a panel discussion with IWM Visiting Fellows Yuliya Yurchenko and Mykola Ryabchuk. \nOne war: three collisions – in this vividly written\, narrative history of the war in Ukraine\, Michael Kimmage puts together the pieces of a complicated international puzzle to understand the origins of the current conflict that has brought the world to the brink of a new Cold War. \nThe full-scale Russian invasion of the sovereign European country Ukraine has uprooted the global order and led to uncertainty and instability. The panel will discuss the origins of what led to the Russian aggression\, the pieces of a complicated international puzzle of the current conflict and the possible outcomes for Ukraine\, Europe\, the transatlantic relationship and the global order. \nMichael Kimmage is Professor of History at the Catholic University of America and a Non-resident Senior Associate at the Center for Strategic and International Studies. From 2014 to 2016\, he served on the Secretary’s Policy Planning Staff at the U.S. Department of State\, where he handled the Ukraine/Russia portfolio. \nYuliya Yurchenko is Senior Lecturer in Political Economy at the University of Greenwich\, Vice-Chair of the Critical Political Economy Research Network (CPERN)\, co-coordinator of the IIPPE World Economy Working Group\, active member of BISA-IPEG\, ISA\, EISA\, IIPPE\, ESA\, the Centre for Global Political Economy (University of Sussex) and the New Politics Platform (TNI). \nMykola Riabchuk is a political and cultural analyst based in Kyiv\, and currently a EURIAS Senior Visiting Fellow at the IWM. His most recent book\, Gleichschaltung.
