Jahrestag der Staatgründung Israels am 14. Mai wieder ins Zentrum internationaler Aufmerksamkeit\, da bei diesen Demonstrationen das Rückkehrrecht der Geflüchteten von 1948 und ihrer Nachkommen eingefordert wird. Bislang wurden dabei tausende Palästinenser_innen verletzt und mehr als 30 Menschen von der israelischen Armee erschossen.\nWährend das offizielle Israel das Datum der Staatsgründung feierlich begeht\, erinnert die „Nakba“ (dt. Katastrophe) an die Vertreibung und/oder Flucht von mehr als 750.000 Palästinenser_innen aus dem historischen Palästina im Jahr 1948. Der Jahrestag stellt somit einen Eckpfeiler einer umkämpften Geschichte dar\, die kaum Spielraum für die Entwicklung gemeinsamer Narrative bereithält. Damit stellt sich die Herausforderung\, auf welche Weise jene Geschichte aus der Perspektive von Marginalisierten geschrieben werden kann. \nWie ist die Nakba in der gegenwärtigen israelischen Gesellschaft präsent? Inwiefern lassen sich die Ereignisse von 1948 mit der aufrechten Besatzung der palästinensischen Gebiete durch den israelischen Staat vereinbaren? Wie gehen heutige Aktivist_innen und Intellektuelle mit dieser umkämpften Geschichte um? So far\, thousands of Palestinians have been injured and more than 30 people were shot dead by the Israeli army.\nWhile official Israel celebrates its founding date\, the ‚Nakba‘ (catastrophe) commemorates the expulsion and/or flight of more than 750\,000 Palestinians from historic Palestine in 1948. The anniversary thus represents a cornerstone of a contested history which leaves little scope for the development of common narratives. This poses the challenge of how that history can be written from the perspective of the marginalized. \nIn which way is the Nakba present in contemporary Israeli society? How can the events of 1948 be linked to the ongoing occupation of the Palestinian territories by the Israeli state? How do today’s activists and intellectuals deal with this contested history?
