Innerhalb der Ostafrikanische Gemeinschaft (EAC) haben das tansanische Parlament und die Regierung in Burundi das Abkommen bislang abgelehnt. In Uganda mobilisieren Gewerkschaften und die Zivilgesellschaft gegen das EPA. Die Regierungen in Kenia und Ruanda befürworten das Abkommen. \nDie EPAs erlauben afrikanischen und europäischen Exporteur_innen einen zoll- und quotenfreien Zugang für zahlreiche Warengruppen zu den jeweiligen Märkten. Kritiker_innen argumentieren\, die Übermacht der europäischen Exportwirtschaft gefährde das Wachstum der jungen Industrien Afrikas. Neue Jobs für die Millionen jungen Menschen\, die auf den Arbeitsmarkt drängen\, würden kaum entstehen. \nWie viel ‚Frei‘-Handel und wie viel Schutz brauchen Afrikas Volkswirtschaften? Within the East African Community (EAC)\, the Tanzanian Parliament and the government in Burundi have so far refused to sign the agreement. In Uganda\, unions and civil society are mobilizing against the EPA. The governments in Kenya and Rwanda signed the the agreement. \nThe EPAs allow African and European exporters a dutyfree and quota-free access for a large number of product groups in respective markets. Critics argue that the dominance of the European export industry endangers the growth of Africa’s young industries.
