DESCRIPTION:The IWM is honored to host the Emma Goldman Awards 2025 ceremony. Since 2020\, the FLAX Foundation has presented the Emma Goldman Awards and Emma Goldman Snowball Awards to talented and engaged scholars working on feminist and inequality issues in Europe. \nFollowing introductory remarks by IWM Rector Misha Glenny and IWM Non-Resident Permanent Fellow\, as well as Chair of the FLAX Board of Trustees\, Mieke Verloo\, the evening will feature two keynote addresses: \nMarta Rawłuszko will deliver a talk on Feminist Futures\, offering empirical insights into how feminist activists understand and envision the future.\nFlorian Duijsens will present his keynote entitled Dorothy Thompson: It Can Happen Here. Dorothy Thompson was a pioneering US journalist in Europe of the 1920s–30s and the first to be expelled from Nazi Germany. Back in the US\, she became a powerful voice against fascism\, reaching millions through print and radio while tirelessly advocating for refugees. \nMarta Rawłuszko is a sociologist at the Institute of Applied Social Sciences\, University of Warsaw. Her research focuses on feminist and queer activism\, with a particular emphasis on sexual violence and the #MeToo movement. In addition to her academic work\, she is actively engaged in feminist activism in Poland\, primarily through research and education. \nFlorian Duijsens is a translator\, editor\, and lecturer at Bard College Berlin. He is the co-founder and co-host of the Dead Ladies Show\, a feminist-history event series and podcast\, and serves as the senior editor of BLAU International. In addition to translating comic crime novels and children’s books\, he edits and translates works for publishers\, museums\, and galleries worldwide. His writing and translations have appeared in Aperture\, The Guardian\, Asymptote\, Ursula\, and other publications. \nAttendance is exclusively by invitation. \n
