SUMMARY:Public Discussion With LBTQI activist Giovanna Rincon
DESCRIPTION:Red Edition joins sex workers\, allies and advocates from around the world in recognizing December 17\, the International Day to End Violence against Sex Workers! \nWe also renew our commitment to solidarity\, on-going struggle for empowerment\, visibility\, and rights for all sex workers.\nTogether with partners and supporters\, we are pleased to invite you to attend the Event “Mourning = Protest in transgender sex worker community” \nPlace: Hofmühlgasse 25\, 1060 Wien. \nDate: 17. December 2019 19:00 CET. \nOn the night of August 16\, 2018\, Vanessa Campos was shot in the Bois de Boulogne in Paris\, France. Vanessa was a trans sex worker of Peruvian descent. She lived and worked as a sex worker in France for 2 years. The sex worker allowed her to live while helping her family in Peru.\nVanessa was murdered while a gang of men was trying to rob her client. The crime was committed with a police gun. The murder of Vanessa is part of a long list of violence against trans women\, often sex workers\, and migrants. Between 2009 and 2017\, a total of 2609 trans and gender-diverse people were reported killed in 71 countries between January 2008 and September 2017. Research shows that 62% of trans people murdered globally are sex workers\, rising to 88% in Europe. In Europe again\, 44% of trans people murdered are migrants.\nAfter her murder\, tribute and protest rise up in Paris\, other cities in France and across Europe.\nTransgender sex worker communities mobilize around the death of one them for denouncing the murder and reverse the media discourse. The death of Vanesa Campos is not a sensational case but the consequence of a system of laws and ideology that deny trans sex workers protection and security from the state. \nThis story will be told by Giovanna Rincon.\nBorn in Bogota and living in Paris. She is an activist for Human Rights for Sex Workers and LGBTQI*. She is a co-spokesperson of French Trans and Intersexes Federation and of STRASS – French Trade Union of sex workers. Head director of Acceptess-T and Vice-President of COREVIH in Ile de France. \nFrom Emmet Till to Marielle Franco\, to Black Lives Matters and others\, turning to mourn on political protest and demand of justice is a counter-strategy crossing many vulnerable communities as Trans\, sex workers\, people of color\, the victim of police brutality\, refugees\, etc..\nMourning is also a way to share our vulnerabilities and a resource for asking civil rights.\nAgenda:\n19h: Opening\n19.30: Video and artist Introduction: STEPS Video Installation by Christina Egger\n19.45: Video screening: STEPS\, Video installation\,11 min.\nChristina Egger & Çagdas.Wien\, Innsbruck 2019.\n20h: Discussion with Giovanna Rincon\nThe murder of Vanesa Campos: Mourning and Protest in the sex work community\n21h: Exchange with the audience\n21h30: End of the event\n22h: Marea Alta party 🙂 or sleeping as u feel \nModerated by: Jules Joanne Gleeson \nOrganized by:\nRed Edition – Migrant sex workers Group Vienna https://rededition.wordpress.com/ \nSupported by:\nThe Red Umbrella Fund Amsterdam https://www.redumbrellafund.org/ \n
